Development of a new technique to fight against enzootic bovine leukemia - ANSES Laboratory - Niort

The EBL cannot pass from bovine to humans. In the ANSES's laboratory Ploufragan Plouzané Niort, the goal is to compare the viral charge of bovine affected by EBL and their allele composition for the DRB3 gene. Indeed, the hypothesis is that the bovine with low viral charge could have a specific type of DRB3 allele. In the same way, the bovine with high viral charge could also have a specific form of DRB3 allele.

This observation could permit us to genetically discriminate between bovine which are susceptible to EBL virus and bovine which are resistant to EBL virus. In conclusion, this differentiation could permit the farmer to avoid the sensible bovine from his program and keep the resistant one. This approach allows to progressively decrease the number of positive bovine in the cattle farming without slaughtering all the positive bovine which economically represent too much for the farmer.
